I said the word.
It was like a deep, dark, secret I was finally releasing. A gift I wanted to share, but wasn’t sure how it would be received at the Bible study in my home.
As children of God, we’re chosen. We’re pursued by the King and Creator of the universe. It’s a special and honorable position.
You are chosen.
Being a chosen child of God isn’t a theological debate over Calvinism, predestination, or free will. The fact is – if you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you chose God.
And He chose you.
Yet saying “you’re chosen” is almost a dirty word.
It’s easy to say “Jesus loves me” but it’s hard to say, “Jesus chooses me.”
Yet Jesus, the bridegroom of His church, says to His bride, “I choose you. I love you immensely.”
There’s nothing prideful by saying you’re chosen. Let’s get over that. When you accept your position as the chosen child of God, there’s security and belonging.
Do you need security and belonging?
When God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as payment for your sins, He chose you. When Christ was resurrected on the third day, He chose you to live with him eternally.
Chosen means being a child of God isn’t dependent on your performance or worth. Your worth is found in being chosen by the Creator of all things.
I’m doing a retreat on being secure in God’s love next weekend. As I asked the Holy Spirit for the “heart” message, the word Chosen echoed in my spirit over and over again.
Then, I realized I needed t0 receive being chosen.
Are you afraid to accept, receive, and declare the fact that belonging to God means He chose you?
I’m afraid health-and-wealth-churches and self-focused preachers and teachers have misrepresented the concept of being a chosen child of God.
Yet, when I read stories in scripture of Israel, God’s chosen people; of women and men God chose to carry out sacred plans; of His love for His believing children, I see God declaring each of us, personally, as His chosen.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once we were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you are chosen by Him. His Holy Spirit lives in you.
You are chosen. Ask the Holy Spirit what that means for you. Read His word and hear His voice speaking to you today.
What are you hearing? I’d love to have you share with us.
You are chosen!
If you’d like to join us for the retreat, you can still register through Friday, March 13. Information is here.
