The Lost Years

The Lost Years.

Do any of you have years you would consider “lost?”

Ones you don’t want to relive, yet you realize they have brought you to where you are,

Good or bad?

At one point in my life, I read a book that was like a life preserver when I felt I was drowning in a sea of desperation.  In the back of the book was a verse I had never heard of,

“I will repay the years the locusts have eaten”  Joel 2:25.

I had been a Christian my whole life to that point but I had never known of this verse.

What hope!

Looking back on the past is often painful.

Trying to muster energy to move forward often seems overwhelming.

But the Lord who promises payback for lost years is also the God
who provides strength for the journey ahead:

Do you not know, have you not heard,
the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and stumble and fall
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength life eagles
they will run and now grow weary
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:28-40

If there are years you look back upon with anger, guilt, regret,
begin thanking God for the future He has ahead.

Thank Him for the years ahead He promises to repay,
for out of barren, deserted places, He is able to grow new life.

New Life.

That is hope.

May the seeds of prayer
sew new life into the barren places the locusts have devoured,
and the seeds of His word
and His promises go down deep today,
showered with His grace and your faith in Him….

begin payback time.

That’s hope.
