If I could write a country song, it’d go a little like this…..

You know your life is lame when, on a Friday night,
you’re up waiting for your family to come home
with two goats tied to the back of a pick-up
And you’re excited.

You know you need to buy groceries
when you wake up
and the bowl in the kitchen sink evidences
the late night snack for the 18 year old boy
was applesauce.

You know you need to do laundry when
two children have a week’s worth of camp clothes
piled on your laundry room floor
and the socks worn buy 4-H fair boys
are stiff, black, and filled with straw.

You know your’re related to everybody in town
When gifts you buy for 4-H sponsors
all come from stores bearing the name Yoder,
But none of them are owned by you.

You know, for a moment,
nothing else matters
When all your children
are safe in their beds at night
For the first time in months.

When my kids were babies,
I’d sneak into their rooms
when they were sleeping
and pick them up and hold them.
They would lay on my shoulder
And I would hear them breathe.

I can’t do that anymore,
but these other things things
are just as sacred.
There’s a song that captures these moments,
titled If Heaven
It’s one of the reasons I love music
that captures the soul of life.

I’m wondering today,
what moments are sacred for you?

What moments fill you with laughter (goats on a rope)
consistency (laundry and dishes in a sink)
or all-right-with-the-world-ness (John-Boy bed time roll call)?

Wherever these words, this song, these moments, find you today,
may the God of all blessing comfort you, uplift you, minister to your needs today.

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21
