The other day I was traveling the interstate across Indiana. I was following a pickup truck with a dog on the back of the truckbed. Rover seemed to be having a good ole time on the back of the truck, but seemed frustrated as he paced back and forth wanting to see up over the top of the cab.
He seemed restless, wanting full view of what was ahead. He kept trotting back and forth trying to get a glimpse of what his Master saw.
As I watched Rover go back and forth in the back of the cab, I identified with him. How many times am I restless, just like him, wanting to see exactly what my Master, in the driver’s seat, sees. How many times do I try to jump up to see what’s up ahead. How many times do I want to jump out of the back of the pick up truck, out of the safe care of the driver…………
I thought of what would happen to Rover if he would have done that. He would have been creamed by the cars in the path of the pickup. His quest to do things on his own would have killed him.
Sound familiar?
I probably don’t need to spell out the spiritual applications, because, to me, they are obvious.
Stay put. Enjoy the ride. You don’t need to know where you’re going. The Master is in the driver’s seat. So just sit back, relax, and let the breeze blow in your face while you sit and watch where the Master takes you.
You don’t need to know what’s ahead. Just hang tight, and take in the sights.
And leave the driving to Him.
And someone along the way will leave the light on for you.
