Fresh Paint

Jun 29, 2011 | Faith

Summertime calls me outside when I’m not working rather than sitting at the computer. I haven’t blogged much lately.  The picture outside my kitchen window explains why.  There is work to be done, and I’d rather be outside than in.

Yesterday our boys were painting the picket fence around our garden.  This, too, is indicative of the last couple weeks.  The paint on our fence had been peeling quite a bit, leaving it looking worn and in need of a fresh paint  job.  It looked old, neglected, and ugly.
If I were to describe the last couple of weeks, it would be fitting of the fence description.  I don’t know about any of you ladies reading these words, but I hope I’m not the only one who goes through periods of irritability, moodiness and unexplained consternation.  Although, I’m mindful of where the root of the consternation comes from….so the question becomes, “What am I going to do about it?”
I’ve been in need of a fresh paint job.
So, that’s what I’ve been setting in motion.  Changing thinking about things that pull me down, committing to thankfulness rather than “overwhelmingness,” and being responsible for the things I need to be responsible for….words, emotions, reactions.
Including the outburst that occurred when we found a dead rat that had burrowed under our deck and ate poison meant for mice.
A dead rat.  Just what I needed last week on top of general moodiness.
Some weeks are filled with dead rats, worn fences, weeds, and a slew of other realities of our lives.  But the weeks are also filled with fresh paint, clean gardens, and blooming flowers.
This week, even where rats may invade, I’m choosing to put on a new coat of paint, so that life beyond my picket fence will at least have a fresh look…..perspective….demeanor.
And it’s time to get away…..I will be gone from the blogging world the next couple of weeks.  I’m taking my third child on their 13-year-old-road-trip-with-mom.  It’s something I started with my daughter and have continued with each one.  We are off to the Black Hills, then return home to 4-H fair, marking the middle-to-end of summer.
Blessings to you all in the Lord as you walk about your summer days.  Whatever type of make-over your fence needs, I encourage you to let the Lord paint fresh and vibrant colors for you to mark the love he has for you, His daughters.  Many times in our emotions, we loose sight of spiritual truths.  It’s one way the enemy gets us sidetracked.  I’m thankful God’s truths, grace, and mercy never change, even when our moods are tossed around like a stormy sea.
Be still and know that I am God.  Psalm 46:10.

May we all know, as daughters of the King, He is our Lord.

I think that it is awesome that you take each child individually on a trip. That time alone together is irreplaceable! I hope that you don't find anymore rats – but if you do – I hope that they are dead! Good blog
