Authentic. Genuine. Passionate.

The Professional Side

Brenda started blogging at Life Beyond the Picket Fence to reach women, like herself, whose lives don’t fit the  storybook image. She needed a safe space to share her struggles as a woman, mom, and Christian without judgment. Her writing resonated with people and she knew she wasn’t alone as a Christian whose life wasn’t perfect. Since then, her blog on faith, life, and parenting reaches people from diverse age groups and walks of life.

She’s now a national speaker, author, advocate, and influencer in areas of parenting, mental health, faith, and authentic living. Brenda has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a B.A. in Education. She’s a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, life coach, former high school teacher, elementary school counselor, and stay at home mom. She’s been a service provider for foster care, women and children affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, at risk youth, special needs children, and teens. Brenda’s professional training and experiences enhances her God-given ability to teach life-changing principles in practical and applicable ways, and equips her to connect with people from all walks of life, socio-economic levels, ages, and faith backgrounds.

Brenda’s new book, “Fledge: Launching Kids without Losing Your Mind” is endorsed by Jim Daly of Focus on the Family and releases March 13, 2018 by Herald Press. She is published in Chicken Soup for the Soul’s “Reboot Your Life” and “Confident and Curvy,” is a frequent contributor to The Purpose Magazine, Arise Daily Devotionals, and has a monthly mental health column in The Hometown Treasurer. Her first book, Balance, Busyness, and Not Doing It All released in 2015. Her advocacy work for public education was featured in the Washington Post. She has written for For Every Mom, GEMS magazine, 10 to 20 Parenting, and Whatever Girls, and writes weekly coaching articles.

Whether it’s a young mom, teenager, young adult, or seasoned Christian, Brenda personally connects with others whether she’s speaking to an individual, a group, or large audience.
