Stumbling is something I’m familiar with. Two years ago I tore my ACL and meniscus and I’ve had an unstable knee ever since. Even with surgery, I have to keep my leg muscles strong for a lifetime so my knee doesn’t become weak.
I’m more aware of places that could cause me to stumble when I walk, run or hike. One misstep can take my knee back pain and weakness. I can’t afford to stumble.
But with Jesus, we can.
I’ve read this verse before, but today it brought new meaning.
The verse says we’ll stumble. Does that surprise you? Sometimes we live like we’re guaranteed and easy path.
I don’t know about you, but life ain’t so easy sometimes.
But God promises many things:
1. He will make your foot secure. If you’ve never had unsecured footing, you may miss the depth of this promise. We walk firmly throughout our lives and don’t realize it’s blessing. Having secure footing means you can walk with strength even when you are weak or the ground below you is unstable.
I’ve observed my father-in-law, who has Parkinson’s, walk with secure and unsecured footing. It makes all the difference for him. One misstep, and he can fall and not get up.
Secure footing is important.
God secures our life footing no matter what kind of rocky or rough ground we’re walking. He makes our feet strong no matter how weak or worn out we feel, physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually. Have you felt weak in these areas lately? I have. When you’re weak, Jesus makes you strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-11).
2. You won’t fall. The enemy wants you to think you’re going to fail, fall flat on your face in your current situation. Yes, you may stumble as you try to navigate out of your circumstances, sin, or changes you need make – but you will not fall! You will not fail if your ways are honoring God. This is His promise!
3. He’s got you! When the path is rocky or you’re exhausted, not only are your feet secure and you won’t fall, but God has a hold of you! He’s upholding you in your beyond-the-picket-fence situation with His hand. What could be more powerful?
This hand parted the seas and lead millions of people across the Jordan with their enemies on their heals.
This hand touched women and men whom others considered “untouchable” and healed them.
This Hand raised His son from death.
This Hand created the universe and everything in it.
This Hand is upholding you.
You will stumble, but you will not fall. You will walk with firm steps with the guidance of His hands.
4. If your ways delight the Lord, these promises are yours. It’s that simple.
If your life right now isn’t honoring God (you know in your heart if it’s not), then walk towards Him. Seek Him and He will equip you to change whatever it is that need changed.
Really.
If you don’t know Him as your personal Savior, He wants to have a relationship with you. Ask Him to come into your life, to forgive your sin and selfishness and He will answer you. He will equip you. He will change you. He is the Son of God, He died on the cross and rose from the dead so you can have freedom in this life and have eternal life with you in heaven in death.
If you have a relationship with Him, but your thoughts, attitudes and actions haven’t been pleasing to Him, ask Him to forgive you and change you, and He will, too. But you have to seek change. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
Then walk! Live! Live in your present circumstances no matter how rocky the road. He’s got you – you will not fall. You’ll walk securely.
His Hand’s got you.
Live securely where you are. What do you need to go right now to be on your way?

What a beautiful analogy and an important reminder. I do not know how I would find sure footing in this world if I didn’t know that He is right there to catch me.
Thank you Ingrid!
